PROPOSAL TO NAME A RESERVE - OCEAN STREET, NARRABEEN TO SURFRIDER GARDENS

The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is responsible for the administration of place names within NSW, in accordance with the Geographical Names Act 1966.

In all naming proposals, local councils are encouraged to undertake consultation with the community prior to submitting a proposal to the GNB. In response to community representations and after a period of public exhibition, Council submitted naming a reserve on Ocean Street, Narrabeen, ‘The Kirsop Surfrider Gardens’, to the GNB for consideration in 2017. This proposed name was rejected. The GNB supported the name ‘Surfrider Gardens’, if advertised for public comment and endorsed by Council. The GNB also suggested that Council install a plaque in this reserve to commemorate Tom Kirsop.

Voted unanimously to display for 28 days for public comment
