INTRODUCING
Jose Menano-Pires

“Local Council is the level of Government closest to the people. The decisions we make impact people’s daily lives – it’s important we get those decisions right .”

  – Jose Menano Pires

Immediate areas of focus:

  • Proper public consultation

  • Appropriate Development

  • Sound management of Council’s finances

Jose is a former Deputy Mayor of Warringah and former Councillor for the Frenchs Forest Ward.

Jose wants to ensure Council remains efficient, transparent and economically strong. He wants the voice of the community to be heard on a number of State Government projects in the area and in particular will work to ensure the State Government’s Hospital Precinct Plan delivers the best possible outcomes for the local community.

Jose has lived in Frenchs Forest for the last 38 years with his wife Isabel. They raised their daughter on the Northern Beaches and are now the proud grandparents of an almost 3-year-old granddaughter.

Jose has a long and distinguished corporate career in Information Technology, having worked in Europe, Australia and the United State for companies such as IBM, ICL, Sperry Univac, Prime Computer and Fujitsu. His roles ranged from Research & Development and technical support to Australian and Asia-Pacific Marketing Management.

In 2012 Jose was elected as an Independent to Warringah Council as a representative of what was then called “C Ward”, now the Frenchs Forest Ward area. He enjoyed working with our community and with council colleagues to implement projects such as the War Memorial Playing Fields in Forestville, improvements to the Lionel Watts Oval and facilities in Belrose, the upgrade of Glen Street Theatre and the design and establishment of the new Belrose Library.

Jose acknowledges we’re in an unusual environment due to COVID-19 – there’s been a significant contraction of the local economy, especially in areas that were previously quite strong like hospitality and tourism. He wants to see robust measures in place to help both the local economy and residents recover from the pandemic.

In the Frenchs Forest ward, there is ongoing uncertainty regarding the Hospital Precinct Plan and Jose wants to make sure the community has a proper seat at the table to ensure their voice is heard and that there is certainty for the future.

Across the Northern Beaches area, there is a need for proper long term planning for appropriate planning and development, to protect our natural environment but also to ensure we have adequate infrastructure like roads, schools and playgrounds.

Jose’s considerable business skills and experience give him the ability to take a professional approach to Council’s operations to ensure that the budget remains in surplus and to identify and reduce any financial waste.

Having served on Council before, Jose feels he still has a lot to offer to local government and to the community of the Frenchs Forest ward. He would like to use his experience and skills to continue the process of unifying the Peninsula into a truly united Northern Beaches Council for the benefit of every resident.
