Your Northern Beaches Independent Team stands firmly with the thousands of volunteer surf lifesavers who protect our community every summer and every winter.

These men and women give up their weekends, evenings, and family time to patrol our beaches, respond to emergencies, and run into danger to keep our community safe.

They are not “dangerous”.

They are highly trained, highly skilled, and deeply professional. Their record speaks for itself: rescues in the hundreds, thousands of preventative actions, and a long history of working hand-in-glove with Surf Life Saving NSW, professional lifeguards, boardrider clubs, and emergency services.

The comments made in the Council Chamber suggesting otherwise were inappropriate and do not reflect the position of our team. We respect the Mayor’s ruling, and we acknowledge the frustration expressed by volunteer lifesavers and the broader community who rightly expect better.
