Bondi to Manly Walk

Exciting to see that all were in favour of progressing this great inniative.

The 80km walk links existing coastal and harbourside walking tracks and paths on public land and takes in Sydney’s greatest assets including Bondi Beach, the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Manly Beach. It is being promoted as a multi-day walk with 75% of the walk being simple walking track.

The concept is the work of John Faulkner, a former Minister for Defence, and Lachlan Harris, a former Federal Press Secretary. They have established the Bondi to Manly Walk Foundation and together with DNSW they are engaging and working with all relevant stakeholders, which includes six local Government areas, three State Government land holdings and several other stakeholders.

An interactive map of the proposed route is available at www.bonditomanly.com.

Purpose:

To seek Council endorsement of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to be a supporting partner in the establishment of an iconic walking track from Bondi to Manly. This new tourism product will showcase Manly and the Northern Beaches and has been developed by the Bondi to Manly Walk Foundation with the support of Destination New South Wales (DNSW).

SUMMARY Northern Beaches Council has been a participant in a working group that includes six local Government areas, three State Government land holdings and several other stakeholders that was convened in late 2017 to explore the concept of a walking track linking Bondi to Manly. Northern Beaches Council has now been invited to be a signatory to the MOU to establish the walking track that will be promoted as one of the great walks of the world.
