URBAN TREE CANOPY PLAN

Previously Manly, Pittwater & Warringah Councils were working on Urban Tree Policies, this was especially necessary after the New South Wales Rural Fire Service 10/50 Vegetation Clearing Code of Practice that anticipated the likelyhood of more private trees being removed than previously possible. Each Council had been working on their own policy which had been halted during the amalgamation process.

On 27 March 2018 Council resolved that:

A. Staff bring forward an Urban Forest Strategy to improve the tree canopy, habitat and create healthy and diverse landscaping in our streets and parks that contribute to the health and wellbeing of all that enjoy our area B.

Staff provide a report at the same time as to how we can encourage the community to participate in actions to increase the urban forest within the Northern Beaches LGA.

The trees of the Northern Beaches are integral to the character, heritage and natural beauty of the area. Our community is passionate about the environment and there is a strong desire to protect and enhance the natural and built elements.
